Afghanistan: Women banned from universities, World News

Kabul: Women have been banned from studying in universities in Afghanistan. The United States and the United Nations have condemned this as a violation of human rights.

The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan last year. The organization has since promised that its regime will not be harsh.

However, the Taliban has implemented a number of restrictions to disrupt women’s lifestyles.

“Stop educating women until we say so,” Afghanistan’s Minister of Higher Education, Neda Mohammad Nadeem, had said in a letter. The letter was sent to all government and private universities in the country.

A spokesman for the ministry confirmed details of the ban to the AFP news agency.

Many women in Afghanistan were deeply distressed after the news broke. In grief, many hugged their friends and cried and screamed.

Some even said they felt like caged birds.
