Kabul: The Afghan currency has depreciated sharply against the dollar due to the economic crisis in Afghanistan. Food and fuel prices have risen sharply since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan. Sugar tripled, wheat 40 percent and rice 15 percent. The World Food Program estimates that about 98 percent of the population does not have access to complete nutrition. Unemployment has also multiplied. In this situation, the value of the Afghan currency against the dollar has fallen by 12 percent in a single day.

The dollar depreciated to 125 Afghans against the dollar on Monday at the Saraishta Money Market in the capital, Kabul. As a result of the immediate action taken by the Afghan central bank, the dollar depreciated to 114 against the dollar. The Afghan Federal Reserve has said it is taking steps to prevent the Afghan currency from depreciating further.
