“Afraid of waking up tomorrow morning”, admits Sexton, euphoric

The Irish opener bows out on a new Grand Slam for Ireland, which beat England on Saturday (29-16).

Johnny Sexton (opener and captain of the Ireland team which won the Grand Slam in the Six Nations Tournament by beating England 29-16, on the microphone of the BBC): “It’s like living a dream. Besides, I’m afraid to wake up tomorrow morning. We didn’t play at our best level, but what a team, what a group of coaches! They prepared us so well. We didn’t do anything they told us to do, in fact we did the exact opposite and made it difficult for ourselves, but hey, England are a world class team. But to come here and win it on a St. Patrick’s Day weekend is amazing. What an incredible day. We didn’t really secure, but we did enough (to win). We set ourselves the goal of winning the Grand Slam at the start of the year. We won the Triple Crown last year (victory against the three other British nations, editor’s note). We wanted to build on that and we made it today».
