African cycling is destined for the Tour de France

Eight African riders will be special guests of the Tour de France on Thursday July 4, a national holiday in Rwanda, where the World Touring Championships will be held next year. Four men and four women will be presented in the morning on the signing site in Mâcon, three Rwandans, an Eritrean, a South African, a Tunisian, an Egyptian and a Namibian. They will meet the champions and in particular the two Africans from Intermarché, Eritrean Biniam Girmay, winner of Monday’s stage in Turin, and South African Louis Meintjes, before the last 30 laps of the mountain route. The cyclists will be accompanied by Tsgabu Grmay of Ethiopia, a former professional, who competed in three Tours de France between 2016 and 2018. Samson Ndayishimiye, the president of the cycling association of Rwanda, will also be present as part of the visit The Rwandan national team is one year away from the World Cup which will be held in September 2025 in Kigali.
