Libreville, July 17, 2024 (AGP) – The Gabonese national karate team returned from Cameroon this Wednesday after their fine harvest of medals, more than ten medals (15) obtained at the end of the UFAk African Karate Championship in Yaoundé, it was noted.

Applauded by Fégakama officials and their relatives upon their arrival at Léon Mba international airport, the athletes performed a few dance steps before receiving congratulations and other hugs from their various masters.

“The satisfaction is at its peak because for the first time Gabon comes out with all the categories namely; seniors, cadets and juniors. And in this corporation, there are children who had never participated in this competition. And here we are today with 2 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 6 bronze medals, it is a favorable result”, declared the president of Fégakama, Gilles Bertrand Ongondja.

“But it should be noted that this result is the result of a process that was initiated and which emanates from the action plan of the federal office which in turn stems from the sustainable development program of our federation,” he recalled.

“We had five athletes who were selected for the national team, it’s their first outing and they were even upgraded to fight above their categories but who today are returning with medals. Let’s say 90% of the entire delegation was made up of young people, who brought back medals for their first outing. This is unprecedented in Gabon. It is also thanks to the Estuaire Karate-Do League which has organized competitions for 3 years that have allowed these children to reach this level,” confided the Technical Director of the Shotokan World Gabon Association, Master Emmanuel Agaya.

“I had two fights and I dominated my opponents from Congo Brazzaville and the other from the DR Congo and I am happy to have come home with a gold medal,” said Alain Obissa, gold medalist (-61kg) in the juniors.

“I was a little stressed before my departure for Cameroon, but once I faced my opponent everything went well for me. I was delighted when I was called to take my silver medal, it’s my first outing and I am proud to have participated in this competition,” admitted the silver medalist in the junior category (-61kg), Yasmine Mado Nse Falana.
