The Moroccan team, composed of the duo Mohamed Lamraoui and Omar Eddib, was crowned African champion after 10 hours of competition, followed by Mauritius and Tunisia, who respectively reached the second and third step of the podium.
Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this prestigious competition, initiated by Rahal Events, was marked by the participation of eight teams representing Morocco, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, Mauritius, Senegal and Tunisia.
The three winning teams, who dazzled the taste buds of the international jury of this competition, won their tickets to represent their countries at the Pastry World Cup, which will be held at the prestigious SIRHA trade fair in Lyon in 2025.
“Today, everyone is aware that Morocco has carved out a large place for itself in the world of pastry,” reacted the president of the jury of this competition, the Frenchman Jean-Jacques Borne, at the end of the awards ceremony.
In a statement to MAP, the famous French master pastry chef noted that the Kingdom has made great strides in the field of pastry, especially in recent years, saying he was “eager to support the Moroccan team at the Pastry World Cup in 2025 in Lyon.”
For their part, Mohamed Lamraoui and Omar Eddib expressed their joy after this African victory. “We share this joy with all Moroccans. It is an honor to represent Morocco and to raise the national flag,” they declared with emotion.
“Congratulations to Morocco. Today, we won the African Pastry Cup, yesterday we won the Bocuse d’Or Africa (…) These two prizes represent recognition of the creativity, commitment and technical mastery of Moroccan chefs and pastry chefs,” stressed Kamal Rahal Essoulami, general manager of Rahal Events and president of TOC Africa.
During the awards ceremony, which took place in the presence of Farid Chourak, Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Governor of the Marrakech prefecture, Rahal Essoulami announced the commitment of the Rahal Events group to welcome candidates from African teams who participated in TOC Africa for training sessions in the Rahal Group kitchens.
Morocco won the 2024 edition of the Bocuse d’Or Africa on Thursday, another prestigious culinary competition organized as part of the TOC Africa. The Moroccan team won the prize after 5 hours and 35 minutes of competition, followed by Mauritius and Egypt.
