Speakers at a panel on “Experiences of African Working Groups” stressed that this African initiative marks an important step and paves the way for optimal use of AI in different fields, calling for the popularization and promotion of this technology in order to establish a frame of reference.

This strategy will identify Africa’s real needs in terms of technological transformation, particularly in terms of infrastructure, capacities and financing, as well as the gaps and challenges hindering Africa’s take-off, adding that the said strategy is developed in a way that respects the specificities and particularities of the continent, they explained.

Adopting this strategy will give Africans the means and tools to solve their own development and digital transition problems, they continued, advocating for national policies promoting responsible AI, while mitigating the risks that this technology could have.

According to participants, this inclusive strategy aims to coordinate a comprehensive approach and serve as a model for African countries to develop their own approaches to AI.

Furthermore, they highlighted the efforts made by Morocco and its relevant role in the development of new technologies, as a major player in digital and AI in Africa.

Likewise, they praised the role of the International Center for Artificial Intelligence of Morocco “AI Movement”, which aims to be a model to follow, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment and its leadership in the development of AI on a large scale.

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this international conclave is initiated by the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) through its “AI Movement” Center, in partnership with UNESCO, and is attended by representatives from more than 30 countries, including around fifteen African countries, with the aim of laying the foundations for an African strategy dedicated to AI.
