After spending 18 months without pay, workers at Group CIS Médias demonstrated their fed up this Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
Gathered in front of the CIS Médias premises, these workers made themselves heard with slogans: “We want our money” “Enough is enough” “We are demanding our rights” “We have endured too much” “Our patience has limits” .
The group made up of journalists, technicians and others were in front of the CIS Médias premises to claim their 18 months unpaid.
Pierre Fatewa Diawara returned to the triggering effects of the strike after several meetings with the Group’s boss, Mamadou Antonio Souaré.
“It’s a reality that has lasted for 18 months. We haven’t received any salaries for 18 months. Initially, it started from a crisis that everyone knows. But the crisis has begun. Which means that today we have decided to take our responsibility and claim our rights. We assumed the good faith of our leaders. Because several times, we had meetings during which they promised to regularize our situations. So, there was a first meeting where there were promises and dates that were not kept and behind it, there was no explanation. Second meeting, there was no commitment kept or explanation to tell us why we were not paid (…),” he explained.
And added: “What brought us out of our tranquility was that on the eve of Ramadan, we were promised that we would be paid. But nothing happened and there was no explanation. We realized that they are infantilizing us. We said to ourselves that we’re fed up, we’re fed up. We lost our dignity at home in the face of our responsibilities. This is why we wrote a letter addressed to the general management of SAM GBM to tell them that we CIS Médias staff are demanding our salaries. The deadline was yesterday, Tuesday, which was given as the final deadline. We said if nothing is done from today Wednesday, we will go on strike. Hence the demonstration this morning.”
This Wednesday, these workers carried out their threat by avoiding work.
“We realized that they were infantilizing us. We have lost all social dignity since we have families at home and we cannot take care of ourselves. We have many other actions planned. The cessation of television and radio programs will be effective today. We are now in an open battle. We’re not going to give up. Our movement will go to the end, until the effective satisfaction of our fight,” said Pierre Fatewa Diawara on behalf of the staff.
For the moment, no common ground has been found between CEO Antonio Souaré and his workers.
