Ephraim Kishon’s famous comedy “The Inscription”, was written in 1959, and was staged as a play twenty years ago, directed by Moshe Naor. Now, Naor returns to that classic, and will direct it again at the Haifa Theater.

The new and surprising stage adaptation will be released in December, and the show will star Shlomo Baraba, accompanied by live music on stage and songs from the decade of Medina.

Only 20 years old: the main star was chosen for the musical “Mary Lou”

The well-known comedy, written in 1959, takes place in the 1960s and tells the story of Elimelech and his wife Shafra, former members of a kibbutz, who discover after 25 years of living together that they may never have married as a religion.

When their daughter Ayala is about to get married, she asks them for their address, for the sake of the wedding arrangements, but they do not remember where the address is, and whether they even got married legally.

When Elimelech realizes that without the ketubah Ayala will not be able to marry Robert, he asks Shepra to marry him again, but she is no longer interested in it. Shafra does not believe that Elimelech really loves her, and he for his part recruits Ayala his house and they do everything to bring them back to each other. Will they succeed?

As mentioned, the play will be directed by Moshe Naor, who first staged the play twenty years ago, and is now returning to it in a new adaptation – taking care to design and elements that match the spirit of the 1960s. “Efraim Kishon is an Israeli classic that we should be proud of,” says Naor.

“The enormous power of this play and its ability to make people laugh and move, is only understood with good actors and on stage, so I am thrilled and happy to stage it again with such a talented cast.”
