Today, Sunday, Italian Airlines resumed its direct flights between Rome and Tripoli after an interruption of more than 10 years, in a step that reflects the noticeable improvement in the security and logistical conditions in Libya.
The first flight was received at Mitiga International Airport by the Minister of Transportation, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, who praised “the importance of this step in strengthening bilateral relations between Libya and the Republic of Italy.”
The minister stressed, “The resumption of Italian flights comes as part of the ongoing efforts to restart Libyan airports and connect them to international destinations, noting the resumption of a number of other airlines and work to restore more international flights in the near future.”
This step is a positive indicator of the success of government efforts to improve the civil aviation sector and enhance the confidence of global airlines, which opens the way for new economic and investment opportunities, and contributes to reconnecting Libya with the world.

The ceremony was attended by a number of Italian officials, including the Mayor of Fiumicino, Mario Bacchini, the President of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, Pierluigi Di Palma, the Deputy Director General of the Authority, Fabio Nicolai, and the Deputy Diplomatic Advisor at the Head of the Italian Council of Ministers, Pietro Sferra Carini, along with a number of senior officials in the… ITA Airways and Rome Airports.”
