Actress Han Ji-min (41) filed a complaint against a malicious commenter.
On the 8th, BH Entertainment, the agency, said, “We have confirmed the circumstances of continued malicious slander and personal attacks regarding Han Ji-min and the spread of indiscriminate false information. “We appointed a law firm and filed a complaint with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul,” he said. “We will continue to take strong legal action against defamation and insults that are publicly committed on various SNS, online communities, cafes, portal sites, etc.”
“We issue a stern warning to malicious commenters who spread malicious slander, unfounded speculation, and false information. Defaming someone’s reputation and insulting their personality online is a clear crime. There is absolutely no agreement or leniency. The malicious comments that fans give of their precious time are greatly helpful in preparing and responding to lawsuits. We sincerely thank the fans who loved and cared for Han Ji-min for their support and trust. “I will work hard to show a better side of myself.”
Han Ji-min acknowledged her romantic relationship with Choi Jeong-hoon (32) of the band Jannabi in August of this year.
They met on KBS 2TV’s ‘The Seasons – Choi Jeong-hoon’s Park at Night’ in August last year and developed into a romantic relationship. They were spotted dating at a cafe in Seocho-gu and in Paris.
Afterwards, Choi Jeong-hoon’s father’s fraud record was reexamined, and some people looked at Han Ji-min with concern.
Choi Jeong-hoon’s father, Mr. Choi, was investigated on charges of offering a bribe to former Vice Minister Kim Hak-eui in 2019. At the time, Choi Jeong-hoon was also suspected of lending his name, but he drew the line, saying, “It has nothing to do with my father’s business.”
In 2022, Mr. Choi was sentenced to threeyears in prison and detained in court for committing fraud worth 900 million won under the pretext of having the authority to sell apartments.

Interview: Navigating Fame and Online Abuse - A Conversation with Legal Expert Min-Jae Park
Time.news Editor (TNE): Welcome, Min-Jae, and thank you for joining us today to talk about the pressing issue of online defamation, especially in the context of celebrities like actress Han Ji-min, who has recently filed a complaint against malicious commenters.
Min-Jae Park (MJP): Thank you for having me. It’s an important topic, and I’m glad to discuss it.
TNE: Let’s start with the situation surrounding Han Ji-min. BH Entertainment announced they’re taking legal action against online slander and false information targeting the actress. What does this situation tell us about the current landscape of online harassment?
MJP: This case illustrates a troubling trend where public figures, irrespective of their achievements, are often subjected to relentless personal attacks online. It’s a reflection of how digital anonymity can embolden individuals to spread false narratives without accountability. In Han Ji-min’s case, the agency’s decision to pursue legal action showcases a growing awareness among celebrities of their rights and the need to protect their reputations.
TNE: You mentioned anonymity. How does it complicate legal action against detractors?
MJP: Anonymity can make it quite challenging to trace the individuals behind malicious comments, which complicates legal proceedings. However, laws in many countries are evolving. In South Korea, for example, there are frameworks that enable victims to request IP addresses and identify individuals behind cyberbullying, although it often requires the cooperation of online platforms.
TNE: That sounds like a double-edged sword. While protections exist, the digital space still allows for a lot of gray areas—especially regarding freedom of speech. How can we balance that?
MJP: It is indeed a fine balance. Freedom of speech is a fundamental right, but it doesn’t include the right to defame others. The key is to create legal standards that can effectively differentiate between healthy criticism and harmful defamation. Ongoing public discourse and legislative actions are crucial in refining these standards.
TNE: Han Ji-min and her agency have chosen to take a firm stand by issuing warnings against harmful commenters. How significant is this kind of action in the larger context of celebrity culture and social media?
MJP: It’s incredibly significant. By taking a stand, Han Ji-min and her agency signal to the public that celebrities will not be passive victims of online abuse. This can potentially empower others in similar situations to speak out. Moreover, it raises awareness about the consequences of online behavior, encouraging a cultural shift toward more responsible communication.
TNE: What about the role of fans and supporters? Han Ji-min’s agency expressed gratitude toward fans who are helping gather evidence against these commenters. How can fans contribute positively in these situations?
MJP: Fans play a vital role. Their support can act as a counterbalance to negativity. By reporting abusive comments and standing with their idols, fans can help amplify the message that hateful behavior is unacceptable. However, they must also navigate this carefully, avoiding mob mentality that might unfairly target innocent individuals.
TNE: Lastly, do you believe this legal approach will deter future malicious commenters, or will the cycle continue?
MJP: It’s a complex issue. While legal action can serve as a deterrent for some, the internet’s vastness means that there will always be individuals who engage in harmful behavior. What’s important is a combined approach—legal, educational, and cultural shifts that foster respect and responsibility online. Only with these elements working together can we hope to see a significant reduction in online harassment.
TNE: Thank you, Min-Jae, for your insights. It’s crucial to keep this conversation alive as we navigate the intricacies of social media and public life.
MJP: Thank you for having me. I hope this discussion encourages more people to think critically about their online behavior and the impact it has on others.
