SÃO PAULO (Reuters) – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva indicated this Saturday that he intends to present new questions about the privatization of Eletrobras (BVMF:), after the Attorney General’s Office (AGU) filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court the day before. (STF) to increase the power of the Union in the electric company.
“I did not go against the privatization of Eletrobras, I still intend to,” said Lula when asked about the subject during a press conference in London, after having participated in the coronation ceremony of King Charles.
When commenting on the AGU action, the president again criticized the fact that the Union has to submit to the rule that prevents shareholders from holding a voting power of more than 10% in electricity, in addition to the “poison pill” clause in the bylaws of the company that makes it difficult for the government to buy back Eletrobras shares.
The day before, the AGU asked the STF to grant the Union voting power in Eletrobras proportional to its stake in the electricity company, in an action signed by Lula.
“The country needs to smile again, that’s what I want, that’s why I’m going to try to dismantle these absurdities.”
