The President of the Presidential Council, Muhammad Al-Manfi, announced the launch of the initiative to establish a center for translating the meanings of the Holy Qur’an during his meeting with the Director-General of ISESCO, Salem Al-Malik.

This came on the sidelines of choosing Benghazi as the capital of Islamic culture for the year 2024, and Al-Manfi stressed that this measure “proves the city’s high and historical status.”

Yesterday, the Islamic World Organization and the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science announced the launch of the activities of the program to celebrate the city of Benghazi after it was chosen as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for the year 2024.

This came during a press conference in the capital, Tripoli, yesterday, Tuesday, in which the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, the Director-General of ISESCO, Salem bin Muhammad Al-Malik, the Minister of Education, “Chairman of the Libyan National Committee for Education, Culture and Science,” Musa Al-Magarif, and the Libyan delegate to ISESCO, “Mohamed Amari Zayed,” participated. And a number of ministers and senior officials.

Al-Dabaiba stressed in a speech he delivered at the conference, “Choosing Benghazi as the capital of Islamic culture is a confirmation of its great status and distinguished cultural heritage,” pointing out that “this selection represents an important message, so that Benghazi will be a model for reconciliation, redressing grievances, and healing the social fabric.”

The head of the National Unity Government pointed out that Benghazi was and still is a beacon of knowledge, as the first Libyan university was founded to produce thinkers and scholars.

For his part, Al-Malik praised the ancient history that Benghazi has and the great personalities who have enriched the fields of creativity, thought and science throughout the ages, noting the city’s prominent landmarks, including Al-Sanabil Theater, Al-Manar Palace, the shrine of Omar Al-Mukhtar, and the Benghazi Lighthouse.
