No one prepared Shloof Islan, 21, for the moment she almost became paralyzed. “We should celebrate together with everyone the victory of the team we support in the World Cup. I took pictures with my phone of the neighbors in the windows and on the street, everyone was singing and clapping. He was very happy. Suddenly I felt dizzy and fell, I really don’t remember anything from that moment,” Islan says, ” It quickly went from a situation where there was a moment full of enthusiasm and joy, to a second later that I almost lost my life.”

Dr. Josh Schroeder, senior physician for spine surgery in the Hadassah Orthopedic Unit: “As soon as Islan arrived at Hadassah, she was immediately put into imaging tests, where we diagnosed multiple fractures in the spine and pressure on the spinal cord, which caused her weakness in her legs and lack of control over her sphincters. We put her in urgent surgery since our main fear was that her injuries would cause her to be paralyzed and she would no longer be able to stand on her feet.”

“In the operating room, together with the head nurse Muhammad Conver and the anesthesiologist Dr. Valentin Levin, we performed minimally invasive surgery on Islan, during which we fixed her back vertebrae and reconstructed the structure of the spine,” says Dr. Schroeder. “To our delight, the operation was successful, and Islan She is expected to be released to her home in the coming days when she can walk on her own two feet.”

“I am very grateful to the doctors in Hadassah for saving my life,” Islan says excitedly, “all my dreams were almost shattered when I realized how serious my injury was. Thanks to them, I know that I will be able to go back to walking, running and being independent like before. I was saved by great luck. I thank from the bottom of my heart to “R. Schroeder and the team of the operating room at Hadassah Ein Kerem and to everyone who cared for me and cares for me to this day.”
