After Criminal Suspicions, Trump Plans to Launch Assault on FBI

by time news

Donald Trump has called on his fellow Republicans to reduce financial support from Congress via his Truth Social media platform. This stance contradicts his time as president when he supported increased funding for the federal police agency and Department of Justice. Trump is involved in several legal proceedings, including two led by the Department of Justice relating to classified documents and his involvement in the Capitol riot of January 6th, 2021. Another legal case, being handled by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, involves Trump’s suspected accounting violations on 34 counts, allegedly committed to conceal illegal activities during the 2016 election. The case centers on payments made to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal. Senator Marco Rubio and Senator Ted Cruz have criticized the prosecution, while the White House has refused to comment. This is the first time in American history that a former president has been charged with a crime, which remains a divisive issue in the country.

It is on his own social media platform Truth Social that Trump on Wednesday calls on his fellow Republicans to ensure that financial support from Congress is reduced.

“Until they come to their senses,” he writes.

The message runs counter to Trump’s time as sitting president, when he was behind increased funding for both the federal police agency and the Department of Justice.

At the same time, Donald Trump is involved in several parallel legal processes, two of which are led by the Department of Justice. These concern the handling of classified documents as well as the former president’s role in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

In a third legal case, which is being handled by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Trump is suspected of accounting violations on 34 counts. According to the indictment presented on Tuesday, the crimes were committed to conceal illegal activities from American voters in connection with the 2016 presidential election.

The case involves payments to porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal to keep them quiet about alleged sexual contacts with Trump.

After the appearance in court, Trump attacked prosecutors and judges. In a defense speech from the residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, Donald Trump called the prosecution politically motivated attacks.

– The only crime I have committed is to have fearlessly defended our country against those who are trying to destroy it, he said among other things.

It’s first the first time in American history that a former president has been charged with a crime and the trial continues to divide the country, with several Democrats saying justice is being served while many Republicans are highly critical.

Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio wrote on Twitter that Tuesday was a “bad day for all of us and we will regret this for a long time.”

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is on a similar line.

“The prosecution against Donald Trump is completely political and unfounded,” he writes.

Representatives of the White House, in turn, refuse to comment on the legal process, according to Reuters.
