After driving school, Ornikar wants to find a place in car insurance

by time news

But where is Ornikar? In the learn-to-drive market, of course, which the start-up, created in 2013, has disrupted with some 400,000 young people each year subscribing to at least one of the services (online review of the Highway Code , reservation of driving hours, etc.). But not only. Because of this success, it now wants to seriously tackle the auto insurance segment.

After a first foray into this sector in 2021, the 2.0 driving school has just redesigned its offer to offer competitive and tailor-made prices to young drivers. “We are addressing all motorists, specifies Benjamin Gaignault, the co-founder who has just left the controls of the company to Philippe Maso y Guell Rivet, an insurance professional who worked for Aviva or MMA. But especially to young drivers who have been trained at Ornikar because we know them well and can offer them cover adapted to their driving. A young person can be a very good driver! »

Especially interesting for their students

However, they remain unloved by insurers who make them pay a high price for their inexperience. Thus, according to the annual study of the comparator Assurland, 18-25 year olds pay an average annual premium of 1,255 euros against 630 euros for all drivers.

“Traditional insurance does not know young drivers, they have no way of knowing if they drive well or not, so they beat in terms of price, accuses Benjamin Gaignault. The only times they make reductions is for the son or daughter of the policyholder, which is not very healthy in terms of portfolio management and loss experience. »

Objective: 100,000 policies within twenty-four months

To find a place in this market, Ornikar, which has joined forces with the European insurer Wakam, has several cards in its hand. A large customer base since learner drivers are future policyholders. But also and above all a detailed knowledge of their attitude at the wheel which allows him to control his risk and propose offers adapted to each profile. “We look at the student’s behavior during his training, the quality of his learning of the Highway Code, the educational path put in place by the driving teachers…”, underlines the co-founder of the company who this time has control over everything, from pricing to claims management.

As a result, it offers a call price of 9 euros per month, “third-party insurance, for the best Ornikar students driving a cheap second-hand car and living in the provinces”, we are told. With a target of 100,000 policies within twenty-four months. On average, it ensures to be 15% cheaper than the market.
