A POSTPONED ELECTION

In the month of October, the plenary session of the CSJ, which until yesterday was chaired by Judge Silvia Valdés, had continued to exercise its functions in the absence of the election of its successors.

The officers who made up the Court during these years were elected for the period 2014-2019, however, in February 2020, the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity (FECI) of the Public Ministry presented the case “Parallel Commissions 2020”, which indicated the existence of alleged strategies and negotiations forged outside the constitutionally designated instances to define the integration of the courts.

This case led to a provisional protection that the Constitutional Court granted to the Attorney General of the Republic, Consuelo Porras, who requested to stop the election in Congress since the candidate lists had their origin in alleged spurious negotiations, a situation that has postponed the election since then.
