It is probably too early to analyze all the reasons for the first night of calm experienced by the country, between Saturday July 1 and Sunday July 2, after the fever of the previous four.

A few incidents have erupted, particularly in Marseille, but also to a lesser extent in Strasbourg or Nice, without comparison, however, with the surge of violence and looting which has set many cities ablaze since the death on Tuesday of Nahel M., the 17-year-old boy killed by a police officer after refusing to comply. Notably, the situation was particularly calm in Ile-de-France, and remained under control in Paris, where several dozen young people had nevertheless met on the Champs-Elysées.

Like the previous night, 45,000 police and gendarmes had been mobilized on the territory, including 7,000 in Paris and the inner suburbs, with reinforced staff in Marseille and Lyon, two cities which had been particularly affected by the rise in tensions last night. day before. Tensions in Marseille

It was in Marseille that the situation was the most tense, without reaching the level of violence of the day before. In the city, which benefited from a massive reinforcement of CRS, armored vehicles and two helicopters from the gendarmerie had been engaged in support of the RAID and the GIGN.
