The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, 19, victorious Sunday of the Masters 1000 in Madrid, gained three places and advanced to 6th place in the ATP ranking of world tennis, Monday, two weeks before the start of Roland-Garros. After dominating Rafael Nadal on Friday in the quarter-finals, then Novak Djokovic, the world number 1, on Saturday in the semi-finals, the young man pulverized Alexander Zverev in the final on Sunday, in an hour all round.
It is his fourth trophy of the year, after the ATP 500 in Rio in February, the Masters 1000 in Miami – the first of his career – and the ATP 500 in Barcelona last week. Embarrassed at the level of an ankle, he will skip the Rome tournament to better prepare for Roland-Garros.
There is no change this week in the Top 5, still dominated by Djokovic, but just behind Alcaraz, Andrey Roublev gains a place to rank 7th, the Canadian Felix Augier-Aliassime also (9th), while Matteo Berrettini lost two (8th) and Casper Ruud three (10th).
On the French side, Gaël Monfils, currently at rest, remains at the gates of the top 20, in 21st place in the world, far ahead of Ugo Humbert (44th), Benjamin Bonzi (60th) and Arthur Rinderknech (63rd).
