There are strategies, there are plans, but nothing has been done over the years

Yesterday we listened in parliament to four ministers who replayed familiar things and talked about new strategies. Both Ministers and MPs had no idea what had been done in previous years. It was an absurd listen! This is what the former Minister of Ecology Evdokia Maneva, who was a guest in the studio with Professor Emil Gachev from the BAS, told BTV this morning.

Maneva pointed out that the first water strategy was written in 2000, and other strategies followed with some plans. None of them are fulfilled or even forgotten.

Regarding the drought, from which around 500,000 people are suffering, Professor Gachev said that this summer is unusually dry. But according to forecasts, this is expected.

Evdokia Maneva asked why, after investing billions of BGN in water supply in our country over the last 24 years, water loss has decreased from only 60% to 57%.

The biggest problem is our poor management of resources, according to Professor Gachev.

Irrigation systems were destroyed. In the past, the waters of the Danube were used. However, no one found the loot, Maneva said.

There is also water theft, Professor Gachev recalled the case 5 years ago when Pernik ran out of water because it was diverted to serve industrial enterprises.
