On the Biguglia pond, a nature reserve south of Bastia, fishermen have not taken off for a year. Of the five professionals still in activity, four have even decided to stop their activity. Jean-Louis Guaitella, president of the pond commission at the Regional Fisheries Committee, points out the culprits, piled up in front of him in large plastic bins: blue crabs. “We have just brought in about 40 kilos per fyke net, just in one morning,” he says. Fyke nets are cylindrical or conical traps designed to catch eel, the main source of income for the last craftsmen of the pond.
