After only three years, Renault stopped production of the Express. The van will be withdrawn from deliveries throughout the European Union. Renault Express Van is currently available in Bulgaria in its cargo version with two seats.

At the end of 2020, Renault launched two new commercial vehicles – the brand new Kangoo and the Express, derived from the Dacia Dokker and therefore positioned as a cheaper model. Three years later, however, the Express is only available ex-stock, the Dutch importer confirmed to AutoWeek.

Why is the Express leaving the European market, but the Renault Kangoo, introduced at the same time, can stay? Because of the latest General Safety Regulations (GSR-II), which all new passenger cars sold in the EU must comply with. Essentially, the Kangoo is a much younger model than the Express. The cheaper Express is actually the Dacia Dokker, a car that hit the market in 2012 and came out of Europe a few years ago. The Express doesn’t meet GSR-II requirements and Renault clearly doesn’t think it’s worth the expense of modifying the car. However, there is Kangoo as an alternative.

Other models that disappeared from the market due to the introduction of GSR-II regulations are the Toyota GR86, Suzuki Ignis and Suzuki Jimny. Fiat, on the other hand, made a major modernization of the Panda in order to continue selling it.
