Bianca Schmidt ended her career in the summer. Now she returns to the square.
A few months after ending her career at Turbine Potsdam, Bianca Schmidt wants to give up her new role as team manager and instead play football for the Brandenburg women again. “I’ve had a lot of fun off the pitch in my new role at Turbine. However, I’ve noticed that I can’t quite do without playing football yet,” said the 34-year-old in a club statement.
After being promoted back to the Bundesliga, the two-time European champion and four-time German champion actually wanted to end her active career forever and support the club in the background with her knowledge and experience. Now the surprising twist. “We are all happy that Bianca still has the desire, fun and the necessary ambition to continue playing football in the 1st Bundesliga,” said coach Marco Gebhardt.
“Hopefully our young players, in particular, can and will benefit from their experience and attitude. Welcome back, Bianca!” continued Gebhardt. The Brandenburg women can definitely use an experienced leader on the pitch in their current situation. After four match days, the Potsdam women, who have not yet won, are bottom of the table.
Schmidt was able to celebrate great success in her career: In addition to her four German championships and two European championship titles, she won the Champions League with the Potsdam team in 2010. In the meantime she also played for 1. FFC Frankfurt and the Swedish club FC Rosengard.
