The violence has frightened residents of some regions with the most expensive square meters in Rio de Janeiro. In the most recent case, former Fluminense and Brazilian national team striker Fred had his car stolen by armed criminals in Ipanema, where he has lived for nine years. In Leblon, a neighborhood neighboring Fred’s, actress Isabelle Drummond was captured along with a friend and her driver by four men. The thieves tried to steal the vehicle, but were unable to start the car. Days earlier, in Copacabana, student Gabriel Santos, 26, was killed in an attempted robbery on the beach. He was in Rio for singer Taylor Swift’s concert.
