After Sahin’s advance on the three-month booster – the vaccine would be enough – domestic policy

by time news

We’ll soon all need the “Blitz Booster” against Corona after three months?

“With a view to Omikron two doses are not yet a completed vaccination with sufficient protection, “said Biontech boss Ugur Sahin (56) the” Spiegel “. “If Omikron continues to expand, it would make scientific sense to offer a booster after just three months.”

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, 17.7 million people – that is 21.3 percent of Germans – have received an additional booster vaccination. BUT: 40 million people still need a booster vaccination, they have currently “only” received two vaccinations.

According to the Ministry of Health, around 879,000 vaccinations are currently distributed every day. Means: By the end of the year, just under 18.5 million people in Germany would get a booster. In the new year, it would then, purely arithmetically, take just under 24 days until all those twice vaccinated would be boosted.

But: is the vaccine sufficient for this?

30 million vaccinations by the end of the year, planned by the general staff – that is the declared goal of the federal and state governments.

Ex-Health Minister Jens Spahn (41, CDU) recently presented the latest figures – which shows: 18 million cans of Biontech and 12.5 million cans of Moderna are to be delivered by December 17th. Because Moderna is twice enough when boosting (half a dose) that would be up to 43 million booster vaccinations.

Ampel Chancellor Olaf Scholz (63, SPD) said before taking office: “Everyone can get vaccinated. We have endless vaccine … “

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (58, SPD) announced in “Spiegel”: “We have the basis for 30 million vaccinations by the end of the year. On Friday we will first do an in-house inventory with all specialist departments to see how many of these 30 million can really be inoculated. “

Means: The vaccine would be enough.

The Saarland is a booster master

▶ ︎ Booster front runner: Saarland with 25.3 percent. Berlin follows in second place with 23.5 percent and Schleswig-Holstein with 23.3 percent. Bottom: Saxony! Only 17.2 percent are currently boosted here.

Good news: 40 percent of those over 60 are currently vaccinated twice PLUS and refreshed. According to the Ministry of Health, 17.6 percent of the 18 to 59 year olds have received a boost.

“Everyone can now benefit from the booster,” said virologist Klaus Stöhr (62), “the older ones a lot more, but the younger ones too”.

With regard to a possible vaccination marathon every three months, Stöhr gives the all-clear: “Anyone who received the booster now, for example four weeks ago, will probably not have to be boosted twice in winter.”

“The current vaccine protects well against Delta, but also partially against Omikron,” said the virologist.

Stöhr explained at BILD Live: “Not only because the antibodies protect against it, but also because the other bulwarks of immunity. And if you now have a fresh vaccination and the antibodies are very high, then of course it will protect very well against Delta and also relatively good against Omikron. ”Therefore, according to Stöhr, it is right to ask everyone to take a booster vaccination.

Stöhr’s outlook: “Boost it now – and then it will most likely last through the winter.”
