The 95-year-old Gavad was hospitalized on Saturday evening, after a medical consultation, at Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem, due to an infection in his leg and pneumonia.
On Saturday night, the medical staff was forced to put him to sleep, after his condition deteriorated.
At the end of Shabbat, members of the Badatz Ha’ada, along with rabbis and Torah scholars, called for prayer in his recovery.
