The Prime Minister intends to present the decree on the new composition of the Government to the President on Friday. Only then will it be announced what the two top leaders of the country have agreed on.
Prime Minister I.Šimonytė herself was not inclined to talk much after the meeting with G.Nausėda, which lasted for about 20 minutes.
“(We discussed) the decree on the composition of the Government, which I plan to present, I think on Friday,” she said.
When asked whether changes are planned in the Government, the Prime Minister did not answer the question.
“When the decree is submitted, then you will see,” repeated I.Šimonytė.
“Because the decree has not been submitted. Today we exchanged opinions with the president”, the Head of the Government cut off when asked why the names cannot be named now.
“I think that I will present such a decree, which the president will sign,” emphasized I.Šimonytė.
G. Nausėda and I. Šimonytė, who met at the Presidency on Wednesday afternoon, discussed the composition of the Government.
Last Monday, the head of the country signed a decree appointing I. Šimonytė to the position of prime minister and instructing her to form a cabinet of ministers within 15 days.
Such a procedure is common after the election of a new president. G. Nausėda was re-elected to this position, therefore I. Šimonytė had to return the Government’s powers to him and check the trust in the Seimas. She passed this barrier successfully.
According to I. Šimonytė, it is always possible to change ministers, even if there is very little time left before the elections, but the arguments for this should be weighty.
“The only requirement or the only condition that would be important here is for those changes to be argued, because changes for the sake of changes, probably I, as a conservative person and generally as a rational person, looking also at the calendar, changes for the sake of changes because something changes , I never practiced, and I didn’t think it made sense.
But if there is an opportunity to have a better quality with one or another decision, then again it is not something that cannot happen”, I.Šimonytė assessed.
Immediately after the re-election for the second term, Mr. Nausėda stated that he would not be able to approve the current composition of the Government.
The President has previously indicated that there are specific ministers who, in his opinion, could be replaced after the Government’s powers are returned.
The presidency made it clear that the work of the Minister of Agriculture, K. Navickas, is most in doubt.
In recent weeks, a lot of criticism has been directed towards the Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkis. The president himself did not publicly name specific names.
Representatives of the ruling coalition believe that there are enough changes in the Government, because the Seimas elections are a few months away, so changing ministers at such a time is simply meaningless.
