“The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections took custody of Danilo Cavalcante at 3:00 p.m. on September 13, 2023 to serve his life sentence for a first-degree murder conviction,” authorities said in a statement.

According to Penitentiary Department spokeswoman Maria Bivens, Cavalcante, who also faces a murder conviction in Brazil, “is in a specialized observation area for classification and security reasons.” The statement was given to ABC News this Thursday.

Food in jail

The Brazilian will receive, in prison, the same food as other inmates. “Right now, he is in a cell by himself and is receiving services from outside,” Bivens said.

“His meals are served in his own cell, and he has the same food as his fellow prisoners. Like other detainees, he will receive a list to fill out with possible visitors and a list of telephone numbers,” he added.
