The Supreme Council of State issued a strongly worded statement condemning the military movements of Khalifa Haftar’s forces in the southwestern region of Libya over the past two days.
The Council viewed these actions as an attempt to increase influence and control over key strategic areas. It categorically rejected these illegal actions, which lie outside the official and legitimate frameworks established by the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army and relevant military authorities.
The statement expressed concern that these moves threaten the collapse of the ceasefire agreement and the resurgence of armed conflict, potentially undermining efforts to unify the military establishment and hindering the political process.
The Council urged the Presidential Council, in its capacity as the Supreme Commander of the Army, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, and the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army to heighten the state of alert and prepare for any potential threats emanating from these illegal movements.
The Council also called on the United Nations Mission in Libya and the international community to take a clear stance on these actions, demanding an explicit condemnation as they represent a direct threat to the ceasefire agreement and the unification of the military institution.
Lieutenant General Salah Al-Namroush, the Deputy Chief of Staff, instructed army units to raise their readiness to repel any potential attacks.
The Joint Operations Force and the National Support Forces Authority mobilized all their members to report to their headquarters with their equipment and gear.
Meanwhile, Haftar’s forces released a video clip showcasing their preparations to advance into the southwestern regions of Libya.
