According to the report, the cranes contain sophisticated sensors that can record and track the origin and destination of the containers they carry, which raises serious concerns that China could take information about contents arriving in or out of the country for the US military.
A representative of the Chinese embassy in Washington called the US’s concerns about the cranes “paranoia” that harms cooperation and trade between the countries. In addition, it was reported that “raising theories of the ‘Chinese threat’ is irresponsible and will harm the interests of the US.” Representatives of the manufacturer of the cranes refused to respond to the report.
