After the end of Frankfurt Fashion Week: “A flop! Utopian!” | Regional

by time news

Frankfurt – In Berlin last week, celebrities cavorted at the “Fashion Week”. In Frankfurt there was only one “Fashion Weekend” in the past few days, a mini edition of the fashion show.

The fashion fair 2020 was flown in big: Frankfurt should become “the hub of the fashion world” and bring around 200 million euros per year to the region. In 2022, the main part of the fair returned to Berlin.

And Frankfurt?

There, Sevinc Yerli (42) organizes catwalk shows with the “Fashion Lounge” in the Sofitel Hotel at the Alte Oper – all through private initiative. She is the only one who is still trying to keep the fashion experiment alive on the Main: “We are currently working on the program for the summer. But this is also my last chance. I can’t go on as a lone wolf forever.”

Frankfurt Fashion Week has cost 4.1 million euros since 2020. Head of Economic Affairs Stephanie Wüst (32, FDP) is happy to have attracted 31,000 people to Frankfurt. Her speech at the opening of the Fashion Lounge contained only perseverance slogans like this: “Frankfurt, which is becoming more relevant as a fashion capital. That’s why we’re here today, because we’re passionate about Frankfurt, because we’re passionate about fashion and because we want to create a community.”

But where is the support for the community? Where are the celebs? Where’s the glamour? Where is fashion week?

There is criticism from Christiane Loizides (74), the economic policy spokeswoman for the CDU: “The whole thing was a flop, the new concept was not thought through. And the idea that Frankfurt could one day play in a league with Milan Fashion Week was utopian.”

For designer Leonid Sladkevich (29) from “leonid matthias” the fashion week is important: “Of course the development is not rosy, we need time, but it is important that something like this takes place at all. For the fashion scene and for the next generation. For us, that has attracted customers from all over the world.”

Real estate guru and fashionisto Ardi Goldman (60) explains: “Frankfurt needs a new basic idea. So far you’ve done something with what you’ve had. However, there is no trace of the big announcement. But the event is definitely more colorful than the other social events in Frankfurt.”
