BRESSANONE. The Municipality of Bressanone has given the green light to the felling of six young trees along Via Verdi, specimens of Prunus Avium also known as the “bird cherry”. And protests have begun, because, many residents of the area point out, “the trees provided precious shade on these hot summer days along the sidewalk and also protected the cars in the park”.
The controversy has spread on social media with residents asking that the trees be restored as soon as possible along the street. “Only one had problems with the trunk,” says a resident, “we don’t understand this decision to cut them down from one day to the next and without warning. Now there are only two trees of this type left along the street and they are absolutely insufficient.”
The residents’ concern also extends to the Bishop’s Park where the reclamation is underway.
landfill: “This will soon lead to an influx of trucks loaded with contaminated soil that will have to travel down our street.” Just a few months ago, a construction site had been set up on the same Via Verdi to build a new apartment building and “numerous trucks and construction machinery have passed through – the protest continues – with a worsening of our quality of life.
After the work was finished, the Municipality had thought of resurfacing the road and sidewalks damaged by heavy vehicles. Now, however, after only a few months, we risk finding ourselves in a similar situation and we are all wondering whether the indications for restoring the carriageway during excavation work on municipal roads or on roads taken on for permanent maintenance by the Municipality are also valid in this case. This time we want to have some more reassurance from the municipal administration on the future of our street”.
