Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan left on August 5 for a diplomatic visit to Russia, during which he will meet with President Vladimir Putin in Sochi. This is the first political visit of a world leader to Russia since the start of the war in Ukraine last February.

The current visit comes after Erdogan met with Putin in Iran last week, alongside President Ibrahim Raisi and Iranian leader Ali Khamenei. Earlier today it was reported that Putin proposed to Erdogan to establish a factory for the production of drones in Turkey, apparently with the aim of supplying more weapons to Russia.

During the visit to Iran, Khamenei expressed support for the Russian side, when he chose to attack NATO regarding the invasion of Ukraine. “NATO is a dangerous entity,” Khamenei told Putin. “The West is completely opposed to an independent and strong Russia. If the way is open to NATO, it will have no limit. If they hadn’t stopped her in Ukraine, she would have started a similar war in the Crimea.”
