Ten years ago, 369 migrants lost their lives in a shipwreck off the coast of the island of Lampedusa, in Italy. Since then, the European Union’s migration policy in the Mediterranean has been marked by blockade decrees, criminalization of humanitarian NGOs, human rights violations and an unprecedented increase in shipwrecks and deaths at sea. “The decade of shame”, denounces the NGO SOS Mediterranée.
