The 75-year-old author drew the ire of many Muslims after he wrote his 1988 book The Satanic Verses, in which he allegedly insulted the Prophet Muhammad and the Koran. As a result, Rushadi has since received threats against his life. Pakistan has banned the sale of his books in the country, and in Iran he has already been sentenced to death if he comes to the country.
