In a speech from the White House, Biden said the election result should put an end to doubts about the integrity of the US electoral system.
“What I hope we can do, no matter who you voted for, is see each other not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans. Turn the temperature down,” Biden urged.
The president said he had called Trump to congratulate and assure him that there would be a peaceful and orderly transfer of power.
“On January 20, we will have a peaceful transfer of power here in America,” Biden said.
The president also called on supporters not to lose hope after Trump’s re-election.
“Remember – defeat does not mean that we are defeated,” he said.
Biden has invited Trump to meet at the White House, which would be their first meeting since the televised debate in June, after which Biden announced his withdrawal from the election race.
