Agadir celebrates the Amazigh New Year

This exhibition is part of the celebrations scheduled until the 14th by the municipality of Agadir, in partnership with the Souss Massa Regional Council, the Souss Massa Regional Tourism Council and the Timitar Festival Association.

“Tassoukt Id Yennayer” includes an exhibition of local products and traditional Amazigh clothing, embodying the spirit of Amazigh creativity rooted in Moroccan culture.

The various objects and creations on display reflect the richness of the Amazigh intangible cultural heritage which constitutes one of the fundamental components of Moroccan identity.

In a statement to MAP, Zahra Manshoudi, vice-president of the Agadir Municipal Council, responsible for cultural affairs, indicated that the “Id Yennayer 2975” program will invest 12 spaces in the city, notably public squares, gardens and the promenade of Anza and Agadir, with a view to offering the inhabitants of the capital of Souss and its visitors an exceptional opportunity to enjoy activities and events in an atmosphere festive.

The public will also have an appointment with exhibitions of artisanal cooperatives and local products, highlighting the works of artisans, as well as a photographic exhibition illustrating the richness and diversity of the Amazigh cultural heritage.

On the menu of “Id Yennayer 2975”, there are also conferences focusing in particular on “Amazighness in the light of the 2024 census”, and “Amazigh television and drama production”, with the participation of Amazigh experts and researchers.

Citizens and visitors of Agadir will also be able to attend major artistic evenings organized in Tikiouine, at Al Amal Square, and at the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella.

These shows will highlight renowned stars of Amazigh song, as well as performances by Raïs and Ahwach.

Furthermore, as part of the cinema program, the film “Mouga Yushkad” will be screened in Anza, Talborjt and Bensergao.

To enrich the experience, Amazigh food tasting points will be set up along the promenades of Anza and Agadir.

In addition, a “Tanggift” show will feature authentic Amazigh wedding traditions, accompanied by artistic troupes, representing the cultural diversity of the Souss Massa region.

“Id Yennayer 2975” aims to promote Amazigh culture, as a fundamental element of Moroccan identity and to consolidate the values ​​of coexistence and cultural openness.

The celebration of Idh Yennayer marks the start of the agricultural season among the Amazighs and reflects an attachment to the land, to the extent that the event has always been linked to agricultural activity.

It has a strong symbolic significance reflecting the roots and diversity of the Moroccan cultural fabric, as well as the desire to move forward in the effective implementation of the official character of Amazigh.

Furthermore, the proclamation of the Amazigh New Year as an official national public holiday gave a strong impetus to the process of implementing measures aimed at strengthening national Amazigh action, particularly in its cultural dimension.
