This event, the launch ceremony of which took place in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, constitutes a space for exchange between professionals and various stakeholders in the sector and an opportunity to strengthen the territorial approach and consolidate cooperation and partnerships between the various stakeholders and economic organizations working in the development of local products.
Built on an area of 4,500 square meters, the fair has the participation of 230 exhibitors presenting a variety of local products such as argan, honey, dates, saffron, almonds, henna, aromatic and medicinal plants, capers, cactus, rose, couscous, olive oil, among others.
This event offers visitors and participants a programme rich in activities, including conferences and scientific meetings on water resource management, ecological and organic agriculture as solutions to climate change, as well as practical workshops on the promotion of local products.
The event also includes awareness-raising and training activities aimed at young people and a tribute ceremony in honour of influential figures in the field of local products.
According to the organizers, this socio-economic event is part of the implementation of the regional agricultural plan and reflects the dynamic of promotion and development of local products introduced in 2012 and which continues within the framework of the Génération Green strategy.
In a statement to MAP, Mr. Sadiki stressed that this annual meeting is part of the implementation of the “Green Generation 2020-2030” strategy launched by HM King Mohammed VI, noting that this event, which is expected to attract more than 130,000 visitors, is dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of local products through the creation of a space for marketing and the exchange of expertise between professionals.
For his part, the president of the Souss Massa Chamber of Agriculture, Youssef Jebha, stressed that this exhibition, which aims to strengthen the solidarity farmer, has the participation of several cooperatives, particularly women’s cooperatives, which are active in the field of local products.
It should be noted that Moroccan local products offer significant annual production potential exceeding two million tonnes, which could generate a turnover of around 14 billion dirhams per year.
The Souss Massa region produces a significant share of the national production of argan oil and saffron and is distinguished by typical products such as thyme honey, euphorbia honey, dates, almonds and henna.
