“Again the earth is absorbed in the blood of the innocent”

by time news

Against the background of Erdogan’s efforts to thaw strained relations with Israel, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid today (Tuesday) made a joint statement with the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Cyprus, in Athens.

The Foreign Minister referred to the massacre in the Ukrainian town of Bocha: “We are meeting on difficult days. There is a war in Europe. Again a large and powerful country invades without any justification for the territory of a smaller and weaker country. Once again the land is soaked in the blood of innocents. The photos and testimonies coming from Ukraine are appalling. Russian forces have committed war crimes against a defenseless civilian population. I strongly condemn these war crimes. But there is also a point of light within the darkness: the world is not silent. The world is not cynical and is not limited only by interests and economic benefit. “A coalition that is rare in size and strength has mobilized to help Ukraine and stand by it.”

Lapid added: “It was important for me to come here and further strengthen this commitment. Along with warming our relations with Turkey which is blessed and its time has come, it also produces a great opportunity to deepen our ties and strengthen regional stability, we will do it our way in full coordination with you. Greece, Cyprus and Israel are exploring the possibility of joint action on a series of issues. First and foremost for them – regional security. Our ability for security cooperation is essential for the well-being of our citizens and the cessation of terrorism in the region. We are also looking at further economic collaborations, with an emphasis on the energy market. The war in Ukraine is about to change the structure of the European and Middle Eastern energy market. There are risks here, but also opportunities that we must explore together. ”
