How are community events like races helping to raise awareness and support for homeless animals?
Interview between Time.news Editor and Ana Villagran Villasana, Owner of the Animal Care Agency
Editor: Welcome, Ana. It’s a pleasure to have you with us today. It sounds like you had a wonderful time at the traditional race event at the Hippodrome of the Americas this past Sunday. Can you tell us a bit about what inspired you to participate in this initiative?
Ana Villagran Villasana: Thank you for having me! I’ve always believed in the importance of community engagement, especially when it comes to animal welfare. This race was not just about the thrill of competition, but about coming together to support homeless dogs in our city. It’s heartbreaking to think about the number of animals in need, and events like this can make a tangible difference.
Editor: Absolutely! I understand that the goal was to collect 20,000 kilograms of dog food for homeless animals. How did attendees respond to this initiative?
Ana Villagran Villasana: The turnout was incredible! We had dozens of people and their pets racing together, creating a sense of community and shared purpose. It was uplifting to see so many attendees contributing to a cause they care about. We even had local businesses donate food and supplies, making it a truly collaborative effort.
Editor: That sounds inspiring! As a former deputy in the Mexico City Congress and a long-time advocate for animal rights, how do you think events like these impact public awareness of animal welfare issues?
Ana Villagran Villasana: Events like these are crucial for raising awareness. They provide a platform for education about animal welfare and the challenges faced by homeless pets. When people come together for a common cause, it fosters empathy and encourages more individuals to take action, whether that means adopting, volunteering, or simply spreading the word.
Editor: You mentioned the need for empathy, which is so important. What would you say to those who may not be aware of the extent of homelessness faced by animals in urban areas?
Ana Villagran Villasana: I would say to look beyond your immediate surroundings. Many people don’t see the issues unless they encounter them directly. But in urban areas, there are countless animals in shelters, on the streets, and in desperate need of help. I encourage everyone to educate themselves, visit local shelters, and consider fostering or adopting. Every small action can lead to big changes.
Editor: Wise words, Ana. Do you have any upcoming initiatives or events planned through the Animal Care Agency that our readers should be aware of?
Ana Villagran Villasana: Yes, we have several exciting events on the horizon! We are planning a community adoption fair next month, and we’re also launching a campaign focused on spay and neuter education. Our aim is to promote responsible pet ownership and to help decrease the number of unwanted animals. I encourage everyone to follow our social media for updates!
Editor: That sounds fantastic! Before we wrap up, what is your hope for the future of animal welfare in Mexico City?
Ana Villagran Villasana: My hope is that we can create a society where every animal is treated with respect and compassion. I dream of a time when we have no homeless animals on the streets, and every pet has a loving forever home. Together, with awareness, education, and community efforts, I think we can reach that goal.
Editor: Thank you so much for your time, Ana. It’s heartening to see such passion and dedication to helping homeless animals. We look forward to seeing how the Animal Care Agency continues to make a difference!
Ana Villagran Villasana: Thank you for having me! Let’s keep working together to support our furry friends!
Editor: Absolutely!
