Ageing: Healthy Sleep and Exercise Can Slow Biological Ageing Process, Study Finds

by time news

Scientists have identified eight key health measures that can slow the body’s ageing process by up to six years. These measures include maintaining a healthy weight, controlling blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure, as well as adopting healthy sleep patterns, regular exercise, and not smoking. The findings, based on data from over 6,500 adults, were presented at the American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions conference. Researchers found that individuals with the best cardiovascular health were biologically six years younger than their actual age. The study suggests that following these lifestyle habits can promote good heart health and slow down the pace of biological ageing. Donald Lloyd-Jones, the chair of the writing group for Life’s Essential 8, the AHA’s health assessment tool, stated, “These findings help us understand the link between chronological age and biological age and how following healthy lifestyle habits can help us live longer.”
