As you may recall, last week the Ministry of Justice in Russia filed a lawsuit demanding that the Jewish Agency stop its activities in the country – something that led to widespread tensions with Israel against the background of the fear that members of the Jewish community in Russia would not be able to immigrate to Israel. Last night Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov said that “Russia has legal questions regarding the activities of the Jewish Agency in the country. But this should not reflect on the bilateral relations between the two countries.”

In response, the Prime Minister’s Office said that “Israel-Russia relations are based on heritage, a continuous connection and mutual interests. The place of the Jewish community in these relations is central. If there are indeed legal issues that arise in relation to the important activity of the Jewish Agency in Russia, Israel, as always, is ready and invited To hold a dialogue on this while maintaining the important relations between the countries.”
