/ Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Qatar is delaying some shipments to Europe due to the conflict in the Red Sea, which is leading to increased transportation times.

The report quoted traders familiar with the matter as saying that Qatar has informed some European buyers of the delay and rescheduling of shipments, and that Qatar is adjusting and rearranging global supplies to meet contractual obligations and diverting deliveries from other places and exchanging for available cargoes near Europe.

The report indicated, according to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg, that Qatar has diverted at least six shipments bound for Europe to the Cape of Good Hope route since January 15, instead of the shorter route through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, noting that Qatar has not reduced its exports, although some shipments take longer to reach their destinations.

Military attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea caused a decrease in the volume of goods transported through it, as a result of which global trade declined by 1.3% in December, on a monthly basis.

Global shipping companies Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are sending their ships on longer, more expensive routes around the Cape of Good Hope, to avoid attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
