The local leader in the region, Jacob al-Malik, added that most of the cases received were for girls from Gereida Secondary School.
While Laila Hamad Al-Nile, responsible for the Response and Epidemic Control Department at the Federal Ministry of Health, confirmed that the ministry has not yet confirmed the nature of the widespread fevers, stressing that the ministry’s laboratories will examine the samples upon their arrival, to announce the results.
Dengue sweeps the country
These developments came days after the authorities in Sudan announced the emergence of “dengue fever” in 8 states, as well as an increase in malaria cases.
The Ministry of Health also stated at the time that the injuries affected the states of Greater Darfur and Kordofan, in addition to the Red Sea, Kassala and the White Nile.
She added that the state of North Darfur is the most affected so far by the disease, as hundreds of people have been infected, noting that hundreds of cases of malaria have also emerged.
While local officials in North Darfur appealed to the central authorities and international organizations to intervene urgently to limit the spread of diseases.
