New Delhi: Central govt seeks details of those arrested in protest against Agneepath scheme The Center has directed the states to hand over the information prepared by them as part of the collection of information on those arrested in the protest. The Centre’s action is part of a decision not to allow participants in protests against the scheme into the fireplace.

Bihar had the highest number of arrests. So far, 1313 people have been arrested across the country in protest. Of these, 805 were arrested from Bihar.

Meanwhile, various groups of job seekers today have called for a Bharat Bandh against Agneepath through social media. States including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab have stepped up security in view of possible protests. Security has been beefed up at railway stations in Bihar. State police and railway police were alerted. UP Gautam Buddha Nagar has announced a ban. Police said the stern action will be taken against the people in the name of the protest. Schools will be closed in Jharkhand today.

Meanwhile, the government has announced that it will go ahead with the project and the Army will release a draft notification today. The Ministry of Defense has stated that the Air Force will release the draft notification on Friday and the Navy on Saturday. With this, the protest is likely to intensify.

State Police Chief Anil Kant has issued guidelines on the precautions to be taken by the police in the event of a Bharat Bandh in Kerala as part of the agitation. Violence against the public and destruction of public property will be dealt with severely. Violent adults and those who forcibly close down businesses will be arrested and prosecuted. Necessary police protection will be provided to courts, Electricity Board offices, KSRTC and other government offices and institutions.

Meanwhile, the Union Home Ministry has banned 35 WhatsApp groups from spreading fake news against the project. Ten people have been arrested for creating false news that led to protests against the fire. The Home Ministry has also directed the PIB’s fact check team to report such fake news.
