Agreement between Enea and Eni for the ecological and energy transition

by time news

Time.news – The president of Enea, Gilberto Dialuce, and the CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, announce the signing of a Joint Cooperation Agreement (JCA) which provides for the implementation of projects in the sectors of decarbonization and ecological and energy transition.

The three-year agreement concerns the development of prototypes, innovative technologies and processes, feasibility studies and scenario analysis, the exchange of skills and knowledge and the promotion of joint initiatives for a value of over 8 million euros consisting of the ‘contribution of human, technical and financial resources from both sides.

“This agreement allows us to make our skills, infrastructures and innovation capacities available to a leading international company such as Eni on strategic issues such as decarbonisation, sustainability and the energy and ecological transition through the implementation of concrete projects “, commented the president of Enea, Gilberto Dialuce.

And he added: “The agreement is part of our mission in the field of applied research to develop partnerships with companies, transferring innovative technologies and advanced services for growth and competitiveness. This agreement also strengthens the collaboration. already in place with Eni in the National Energy Technology Cluster, in the field of nuclear fusion and in other initiatives for the circular economy, concentrated solar power and heat storage “.

In detail, the agreement concerns the areas of energy production from renewable sources and low CO2 emissions, supercomputing, superconductivity and the circular economy, including innovative processes for the valorisation of waste and for the production of biogas, biomethane and biochar, and also provides for the use of infrastructures and laboratories in the Enea Research Centers.

For renewable sources, the agreement provides for the identification of innovative use contexts for concentrated solar power, evaluating the development of combined generation and thermal storage systems, the promotion of national and international partnerships for the design of industrial solutions and participation combined with research and development projects for the creation and validation of prototypes. In the field of supercomputing, the partnership will develop, among other things, new generation technologies and hardware for an innovative High Performance Computing (HPC) system with high energy and calculation efficiency.

In the field of superconductivity, Enea and Eni will collaborate in the development of an innovative technology for the design and construction of a Quench detection and prevention system (loss of superconducting characteristics) in an HTS superconducting magnet. In this sector, Eni and Enea are already together in a strategic alliance for the construction of a large scientific-technological center on the Dtt (Divertor Tokamak Test) fusion that will be built in the Enea Research Center in Frascati.
