The Colombian Association of Professional Soccer Players (Acolfutpro), the Major Division of Colombian Soccer (Dimayor) and the Colombian Soccer Federation have signed an agreement that paves the way for the negotiation of better working conditions for the country’s footballers.

The Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez, has described this agreement as one of the most important in the history of Colombian sports.particularly with regard to the labor rights of footballers. The signing of this agreement was possible thanks to the mediation of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Ministry of Labor, after two years of intense rapprochements and negotiations.

Among the requests raised by the football players’ union, the following stand out: preparation of a calendar of professional skills that includes periods of rest and recoverythe agreement of the player’s status, the disciplinary code and the single mandatory employment contract minute. In addition, the creation of a professional women’s soccer tournament, complementary health policies and the regulation of schedules, intervals and rest time between games are proposed.

On April 16, the union will officially present these requests to the actors involved in the agreement. Minister Ramírez has assured that the Ministry of Labor will act as a guarantor that the negotiations take place in a cordial atmosphere and will seek to improve the conditions of athletes, setting an example for the continent.
