By signing an agreement, the Government of Mexico City began the process of regulating 40 irregular settlements occupied by 7 thousand families in the hilly area of Xochimilco.

On the esplanade of the town hall, the head of government Marti Batres On Thursday, he headed the signing of planning agreements for the regularization and registration of housing in 40 irregular human settlements.

To consolidate these settlements, the establishment of home wetlands, the organization of tequios for cleaning and the installation of rainwater collection systems were carried out, the president indicated.

“The establishment of at least 10 drains to capture rainwater, reinject it into the subsoil and prevent flooding, the improvement of the rural image, participation in environmental education workshops, the construction of retaining walls over 15 kilometers to protect conservation soil“, he commented.

In her participation, the general director of the Commission of Natural Resources and Rural Development (Corenadr) of the Ministry of the Environment (Sedema), Columba Jazmín López Gutiérrez explained that to contribute to sustainable development in the mountain region, actions were required in environmental matters such as reforestation, clearing of land and canals, and planting trees.

“Work has been carried out to clean and sanitize the canals; the bodies of water have been cleaned and in the mountain area a retaining wall is being built”he commented.
