Agricultural exports grew by 13.1% in July

Exports from the Colombian agricultural and agro-industrial sector registered an increase in July 2024, reaching a total value of USD 944 million, representing a growth of 13.1% compared to the same month of the previous year.

This positive performance is mainly due to the increase in exports of key products such as coffee, bananas and cocoa.

According to the report, coffee showed remarkable growth, with an increase of USD 62.8 million (27.7%).while banana exports increased by USD 20.2 million (33.9%). Cocoa and its preparations also stood out with an impressive growth of 110.4%, representing an increase of USD 14.4 million in the export value.

Sustained growth

In the cumulative period between January and July 2024, the Colombian agro-export sector reached a total value of USD 6,526 million, which implies an increase of 8.6% compared to the same period in 2023. This increase was led by banana exports, which grew by USD 281.2 million (59.1%), followed by flowers, with an increase of USD 139.1 million (10.4%), and coffee, which increased its foreign sales by USD 111.2 million (6.5%).

In terms of annual variation (August 2023-July 2024), exports in value grew by 0.9%, compared to the same period of the previous year, highlighting the stability and sustained growth of the sector.

Boost in export volume

In terms of the volume of exported products, the sector also experienced significant growth. In July 2024, Colombia exported a total of 409,858 tons of agricultural and agro-industrial products, representing an increase of 7% compared to July 2023.

This increase in volume was driven mainly by bananas, which recorded an increase of 28,493 tonnes (24.9%), followed by coffee, with a growth of 9,347 tonnes (20.9%), and Tahiti lime, which experienced a notable increase of 5,167 tonnes (88.7%).

Between January and July 2024, the total exported volume reached 3,375,275 tons, which implies a growth of 16.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. Bananas stood out with 518,792 tons exported (56% more), followed by coffee, with 49,947 tons (15.4% more), and Tahiti lime, with 21,758 tons (63.2% more).

Over the past 12 months (August 2023-July 2024), exports grew by 7.5% in volume compared to the same period last year.
