This meeting focused on the situation of the agricultural products processing sector, in particular the situation of the olive oil sector, and the measures to be taken to support operators in maintaining their units in operation in a difficult context, marked by a succession of years of drought strongly impacting the supply of production units, and an international context marked in particular by inflation, the increase in the price of inputs and competition on foreign markets, indicates a press release from the ministry.

This meeting is part of the governance adopted by the ministry to support interprofessional agricultural federations and the continuous and regular monitoring of the situation in the sector for the development of agricultural sectors and the strengthening of the resilience of the sector within the framework of the Generation Green strategy, specifies the ministry, noting that the management of the current difficult context is based on the approach of local monitoring and consultation with professionals by sector and by sector segments.

A series of measures to protect the olive industry and continue its development

Following the discussions and proposals issued by FICOPAM, the Ministry of Agriculture and professionals agreed on a series of measures to ensure the supply of olive products to the national market under good conditions, safeguard the achievements on export markets and preserve the competitiveness of the Moroccan origin.

This involves ensuring access to raw materials under good conditions to preserve the production capacities of the processing sector, setting up mechanisms to combat the informal sector and speculative practices which hinder the proper functioning of the olive product market and accelerating the implementation of the decree setting the dates for the olive harvest from the next campaign, in close consultation with professionals.

It is also a question of maintaining the system aimed at limiting sales of low added value olive products and of accelerating the publication of texts relating to the implementation of the provisions of the 2023-2030 program contract for the olive sector, in particular incentives for the diversification of exports.

In the difficult context of prolonged drought, the ministry, with all its services and establishments under its supervision, remains mobilized and strengthens the local monitoring of the evolution of all agricultural sectors in coordination with the interprofessional organizations to take the necessary measures in good time, in parallel with the implementation of the programs and projects of the Green Generation strategy, concludes the press release.
